need information - auto response

I am in the process of building a website what I need to know is where can I
learn about auto-responder email program and how is it coded??
They would like to have it set up so that when a customer sends an immediate
response.
Thank all of you for the help you have given me in the past and that you
have given others. I saved the shopping cart info and it sure has came in
handy.
