When web-browsing software calls another piece of software,
such as a plug-in, and "brings it to life", this is "spawning".
Thus, to play music, netscape "spawns" a live-audio player.
When IE wants to present real-audio content,
it "spawns" a real-audio player. And when you view
a .pdf file, your browser "spawns" an adobe acrobat reader.
And so on.
