Best thing to do in my opinion is start with validating the page.  Go to
http://www.w3c.org, validate the page and then go from there.

The only thing that I can see at a quick glance is that you have some
closing p tags ( /p ) throughout the
http://laingsociety.org/colloquia/psychotherapy/fps1.htm page.  This may be
what is causing the problem.

There are certain html elements that paragraph tags can't include (this is
what I mean by "overlapping").  For instance, don't use the following:

<p> <hr width=100> </p>

... but instead use something like:
<p>&nbsp;</p> <hr width=100>

... also can't have paragraph tags including a table.

Try that and then validate the site.
