Sounds to me like it's time to mend fences.
I would have another meeting with the IT Manager and ask for his
help on working on a resolution. You should explain why your group felt it
necessary to redesign the site and why you didn't ask for technical support
from IT. If your group doesn't have responsibility for technical
development then it shouldn't work on someone's turf.. likewise for the
other group with respect to the logo. There may be issues that need to be
addressed in a constructive way. The IT Manager may be responding with the
most negative analysis because your group has .. in his view.. crossed the
line. If emotions surface the discussion needs to be focused on the best
interests of the company.
BUT.. It sounds like an opportunity to form cross-department teams.
Perhaps you could create a 'web redesign team' made up of members
from graphic services and IT development. The mission could be to create
something with the look and feel of the new site - and resolve any technical
issues mentioned by IT. To save the organization money - both groups should
try to utilize as much of the new material as possible. Use this
opportunity to provide leadership to your department on how to accomplish
things within an organization!
If you can't resolve this between the management of both groups - I
guess you need to bring in some upper management. But upper management will
seek the lowest cost solution that provides the highest quality... and will
find the compromise.
All the best!
