How to open in new window?

I'm using HTML to create a family photo album which will be distributed to
family members on CD-ROM. The album consists of several pages of thumb nail
images with descriptive text. Each thumb nail serves as a link to a larger
version of the image. There will also be some links to audio files of older
family members reminiscing. I'd like to have the images and the audio
control panel (Sound Recorder or whatever the viewer is using to play WAV
files) appear in a separate window sized to fit the image or controller.
I'd prefer to avoid JavaScript as I can't be sure that the person viewing
the files will be able to run the scripts. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
