Yikes !!

Here is my best suggestion . . . for what that is worth . . .

Get the on the web. Have them seek out pages that have a little icon on
them saying " valid HTML" but wait . . . that's not all, the icon *****
must **** contain (be) a link to the w3 validator.

Look at the source code for those pages and have them figure out what
element(s) of the code cause what "interesting" features of the page to
display.

Then . . . (or during) have them copy and paste those elements into their
own HTML file.

Shake/mix/stir until the page works (VALIDATES !!!).

Being in education you can probably recognize this method: Guided Discovery.

It works, I use it in k-5 schools successfully.

****************** DO NOT ***************** get suckered into simply
teaching one of those WYSIWYG editors.

As a side note . . . One of my kids took just such a course at High School.
They taught Microsoft's Front Page program. The teacher damn near got the
school sued, and ~did~ get them _thoroughly_ humiliated in public.

Believe me, if ONE parent finds out their kids are being taught to do
something _wrong_ . . .

HTH,
Fuzzy
