You know, this is the part that *really* gets under my skin about this
whole thing.

The web used to be the great equalizer.

Please, allow me to wander for a second, it'll turn out to illustrate my
point well.

Way back when I was starting out in this business (web developer), I was
invited by an "Executive Retraining Specialist" to conduct a series of
mini seminars to their clients illustrating the potential of the web. Both
in terms of employment resources, and as an opportunity to them as
potential "small businesses".

I know, I must have been high. Completely out of character for me to take a
gig that would expose me to genuine Executive Level suits. At least they
didn't get me in a suit to do this (I put my cowboy boots on in their
parking lot, and left the flip-flops in the Jeep). Anyway . . .

I can tell you that I got a LOT of snoozing white collar types attention
when I pointed out that the web allowed a . . .

" . . . fellow who mixes soap powder at home in his bath tub for sale to
compete on an even playing field with the likes of Proctor and Gamble,
because the search engines returned results based on relevance to search
terms, rather than dollars invested in advertising."

I guess *that* is out the window now.

I'll bet you see my point now. The web has gone the way of the professional
athlete . . . errr, well, something like that.

All bow now (not bow-wow, pay attention!), to the almighty dollar !!

Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?
