I'm wondering if there is a way to capture a text string input by a 
user, build a URL that includes the text string, and redirect the 
user to that URL?

The context of my question is that I am a librarian, and am working 
with a library database that is on a remotely supported server.  I 
have no access to CGI or other programming tools on the server side, 
but would still like to construct a web page that would include a 
field allowing users to launch a quick keyword search of the library 
database.  I've been teaching myself javascript and forms, but have 
not found anything that will let me capture the user's keyword and 
paste it into a correctly formatted URL that would mimic the syntax 
used by the library database's own software.  Any suggestions?
