General Post: Fuzzy Observation.

I think my friend the Document Type Definition (DTD) is a misunderstood and
under appreciated element.

Folks (yuens) seem to think sometimes that it is an obstacle to
development. It puts restrictions on you that you (understandably) don't like.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttttt
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong.

It's a dad-burn _ definition_ for goodness sakes. You can even write your
own DTD - No Kidding. If you don't like any of the . . . (note this) . . .
8 to 10 . . . currently circulating and available for use.

You choose the guidelines any given browser uses to render Your page. That
sounds pretty darned liberal to this 'ol red neck - long hair'd Oil Patch
reject - I'll tell ya.

It is never disputed that a page "will display" with no DTD at all - even
though it really and truly *is* a required element. But wow. Talk about
giving up control of your presentation - THAT'S IT - . Leave the DTD out,
or define one and use non-compliant code, and all bets are off!

So, me and my friend have to ask you guys (and girls) why in the heck is
"everyone" willing to "ignore" the DTD and thus give away what is
(debateably) THE most crucial element of presentation control ???

Fuzzy.
