Pop-up Windows

It was explained to me once, a long, long time ago, and I did nothing with 
it then,
but now I want to know how to do it...

That is  to make a pop-up window (as opposed to opening in a new browser 
window).
Supposed to be some sort of Java Script to invoke this, and to set the 
window size and all.

So if someone can point me in the right direction, I surely would 
appreciate it.
