Custom 404 / Scrolling Text

Many thanks to all those who replied to my question about this. I had 
already looked at many of the sites suggested, but your replies helped me 
find new sites I did not know about.

Apparently the question I submitted earlier about creating a custom 404 
error page did not get posted, so I'm trying again. I followed the Apache 
server instructions at http://www.plinko.net/404/ to the letter. (Yes, my 
site is hosted on an Apache server). Per these instructions, I created a 
404 page and a .htaccess.txt file. My custom 404 page is named 404.html; 
both it and the .htaccess file are in the root directory of the site. Here 
are the contents of my .htaccess.txt:

ErrorDocument 404 /404.html

It's not working; any ideas why? The tech support people at my web hosting 
company didn't have any answers. The URL for the site in question is 
http://www.advancedresumes.com.
