I've been thinking (yes, I know that's dangerous :)
In the past we have generally had 2 major operating systems, 2 major
browsers, and perhaps 2 major versions to code for (Note: I'm neglecting
the minorities for a moment). It wasn't too hard to get a reasonable
replica of print-based material if you inlcuded a few simple work-arounds, etc.
The explosion of WAP devices make it unfeasible economically to cater
EXACTLY to all the different versions.
Perhaps this will be a boon to web designers - the expectation that a web
page will render EXACTLY the same on all browsers may fade into the
background, letting content take a higher priority :-)
