Ok, Folks,
pay back time.  Here I can offer some experience.  I'm so thankful the the
help I have received from this group and will be needing more!!
I work on web pages for an antique auction house.
The very best quality photo work we do for paintings is:
1. Photograph the art work outside in natural sunlight.
2. Scan the image.
3. Save the image as TIFF or tif (platform).

Then you always bagin with that original scan when you need to manipulate
the image.

Just beware that these graphics take up a lot of space on your hard drive.
Invest in some storage hardware.

Scanning software gives you so much to work with as you learn about what
photographers do for high quality.  It's like taking the photo again with
finer results.
