Hi Ken,
I checked the web site you gave the URL for. My computer didn't freeze with
this one. I have had it happen with other web sites, though.
I'm using Netscape 4.04 and a Power Mac 6500. Netscape is set for 10000
which is over the recommended 6000. I didn't hear the music and I didn't
have to shut it off either. I happen to have a software modem which will
not play a MIDI file if it is on a web page.
Maybe you can check your settings for your modem. Whatever PPP you are
using check to see what you have set for FLOW CONTROL. Most of my settings
are set for the server to automatically make the adjustments.
I just helped someone correct the freezes on their Mac by setting flow
control to NONE. If your Mac is newer (lucky you:-)) it may be another
setting somewhere in the PPPsoftware or modem software.
Hope you find it. I always appreciate it when someone is going to use the
advanced features on a web site that they offer the first page as plain
vanilla with options for the surfer. Basic, frames, no frames, advanced or
whatever terms they decide. I know people who can well afford a new Mac G4
but still use older equipment, even older PCs for one reason or other. For
software I still use some older versions on purpose because they do what I
want them to do. Older browsers can work well and some prefer them, too. If
customers are the target audience these considerations are paramount - I
think.
Try increasing the cache in Netscape, too.
Good luck.
Lois
