It is better not to have spaces in file or directory names.

I'm a writer who inherited a web-based Help system, and I'm learning as
I go. I just discovered this list, and here's my question:
Does anyone out there know of any problems created by using spaces in
hypertext
links? There's a *very* good tech support person on staff here who
thinks that
this can create problems. My contacts in Engineering and QA don't
think that it will.
Our customers will deploy our new the product in an extranet
environment, where
cross-platform compatibility is quite important.
Since I'm in charge of Help, I want to be certain that I make the right
decision
at this point - do I edit out all existing spaces in hypertexts link of
the
Help system that I inherited? Do I observe a "no space" rule in the new
Help
files?
Thanks for all your assistance.
