RE: calculating distance based on zip/postal codes

Well, sometimes you don't need to know the exact distance. On one of my
websites, a directory of family activities in the Baltimore area, I let
users search for activities close to them by using Zip code. Most people
don't have a GPS and don't know the lat/lon of their house, but most people
do know their zip code. So, I can show them activities within, say, 15 miles
of their zipcode, which will probably not be exactly 15 miles from their
house, but will be close enough to tell them whether they want to go their
or not.
