Hits/Selling advertising

I am looking for some data on hits and advertising.
How many hits does a site need to generate to get interest from companies
who want to advertise (I am looking for averages, as I imagine different
industries and purchase prices would affect this)?
What kind of dollars are being paid for these ads?

The questions have come up from clients lately and I am so buried in design
and programming that I don't even have some simple averages for them.
Anyone have some info or links on this?
