I would recommend not having a partner at all. I used to read INC magazine
for several years, and the biggest thing that sticks out in my mind is that,
in their Anatomy of a Startup feature, almost every business owner said that
their biggest regret was having a partner that cost them dearly to shed.
They always wanted a partner in the early days, mainly so they didn't feel
so alone, but very rarely did it work out. I know that there will be some
people reading this list who have a wonderful partner, but they are in the
minority.
Go solo. Hire a sales person - it's cheaper and you have better control.
