I use 000domains.com -- they offer a yearly registration fee of about 61%
less than what Network Solutions (NSI) and Registrars.com (IDR) charge, and
are owned by Tucows, so I feel safe using them. NSI is still playing the
monopoly game, though, as I recently acquired a domain for a client that was
available ONLY through NSI. I'll be moving it to 000domains soon, though.
Also, in the game arena, NSI won't display the WHOIS data records for
domains held by 000domains, saying only that the records are kept there. All
the others display the 000domains WHOIS records correctly. IDR, which was my
personal choice prior to finding 000domains is playing their own game when
it comes to transferring domains from them to 000domains. I've tried three
times to move one domain off their services, and each time, they fiddle-fart
around until the request times out (a week later) before doing anything, and
by then, the request is invalidated. NSI at least has the courtesy to
transfer domains quickly.
