I won't be renewing mine after having one for 2 years. I think teh decision
to advertise this way depends a lot on the city you are in and the
competition there. Mpls we have quite a few pages of listings for of Web
Site Developers/ISP's. If you don't have the budget for full page color ad
its tough to stand out. Of course the fees a prospect would pay to those
companies are significantly higher than they would pay for similar services
at my company since I don't have the overhead of the full page ad to cover.
You need to remember some prospects will be looking for a *smaller* firm
(I'm making the generalization that smaller firms use smaller ads) and will
look at all the listings for "something". It might be location, might be a
buzzword. We choose to focus on e-commerce. We get a few inquiries but
mostly these are 'price shopers'. It only takes 1 client to pay for the
year at the size we have and we've gotten more than that but we also have
wasted a lot of time on dead ends. Combine this with the fact that our YP
comapany also sells HOSTING and DESIGN - and are prominently listed in
front of all us paying customers it doesn't make sense. Of course their
services don't compare but people often won't research to find that out. JMHO.
