Re: OT: Domain Name "Slamming"by Michael Ricker <staff(at)managementspecialties.com> |

I can't think of any *major* Net companies that have broken more rules of ethical business on the Net than NSI. Right down to the SPAMMING "You asked for it..." BS line in their email "newsletters" to holding expired names out of the domain pool. The biggest problem we see is the "NOTICE OF DEACTIVATION" scare tactic. This goes out to domain owners who have transferred their domain AWAY from NSI to another register. Basically states they have not made payment and their domain will be deactivated. This is in additional to the invoices for renewal they continue to send even AFTER the name has been transferred. We inform our clients about these unethical tactics and ask them to submit these invoices so we can turn them into our State Attorney General for investigation. NSI isn't afraid of any business owner but they do take notice when the Attorney General gets involved. Outside of the US you may need to take different action such as contacting FTC or FCC. If you are experiencing these types of ongoing invoices and deactivation notices you are welcome to forward them to us (copies are fine). We'll submit them with ours on a monthly basis. We suspect that these actions will cease due to the attention it is drawing from other authorities.
