None other than the rules of bad taste. Whenever using any audio on a site make sure it fits the site's character and is well compressed. A simple background sound is probably going to serve as a distraction. However sounds keyed to events can be effective. Or of course sounds as in music samples on demand for a music site (if the business is a band or recording studio or similar)...
