I too have been retained by some of the larger Canadian sites - wait - I
run one of them :), but it seemed obvious to me that Judith had placed
herself as a knowledgeable professional. The fact that she subscribes to
specialized quality newsletters, and she knows what they are, showed me
that she has invested considerable time and money into this topic.
It seems the only thing that qualifies us as specialists is the time,
understanding, and interest, put into the study of a topic so if someone
shows all three - the odds are pretty good she is right up there on that
pedestal assigned to experts and consultants retained by large sites ;).
I think the topic bears some discussion. The real question is: all issues
of optimization techniques aside (what works, what doesn't etc.) the
landscape is changing - and what can we as professionals perceive of these
changes, and do about it?
Cheers
