Hello,
I normally lurk around here, but I had a question come up this morning that
I thought I'd throw out to those more experienced than I.
I recently left a full time gig doing development for a start up content
site to go into business on my own. It was my great good fortune to land my
first client almost immediately and she's been stellar. She's something of
a handmade toiletries diva, the handmade toiletries industry being a fairly
up and coming cottage industry. She first hired me to do a site from the
ground up, then to redesign one of her existing sites. In addition to the
two sites I've already worked on, she has another existing site that needs
some work and at least two more sites that will be developed from scratch.
This morning I received email from her asking if she could get a bulk
discount for work done over a certain time period if she could guarantee me
all of her site work for that time period. This is a fantastic offer for
me, because it means steady work and steady income for a while.
My question is this: How would you handle a bulk discount of this type?
Should I quote her a retainer fee for a certain number of hours a week or
should I offer a flat discount of 10% or 15% across the board?
Any insights are greatly appreciated.
TIA
~~k
