Of course I was being facetious. It always matters since, as Drew points
out, negotiating leverage often wins the day.

That is the essence of my article "Dignity for Designers." First
impressions are essential and if you are either operating with no written
agreement or you've got one of those cut and paste, layman written, 2 page
versions, the impression you present is one of being quite
unprofessional. Given the significant amount of competition in your field,
image is everything. But if you project that you take your business
seriously enough to warrant a clear, professionally written agreement, then
you are saying to the client that they should take you seriously as well.
