Martin,
I'd say it took around 15-20 seconds on a 28.8 connection.
I ran the image through GIF lube at www.websitegarage.com and they managed
to shrink the image from 32K to 9K with very little reduction in image
quality. You might take a closer look at the compression options for JPG in
your graphics program, reduce the quality a bit and you'll get much better
compression.
