I like the design and I agree that the picture in the banner leaves
something to be desired (tough to tell what it is on the inner pages other
than a landscape).

I wonder if the inner page content would be improved by using the same inner
shadow effect on the text outline that you use elsewhere. That should
provide some graphical interest.  I would also move the navigation on the
left to near the top mimicing the home page.  That would give you more
screen real estate for your text and allow you to use the left side for
second-level navigation.

Finally, the photos on the inner page are a bit too small for my tastes and
I have a hard time making them out.
