Good Morning Critique Listmembers:
My name is Glynda Wolf and I am Starr Wolf's oldest sister.
I am not a listmember, so, please excuse this "intrusion" into your domain,
but, I refuse to stand idle a second longer. I do have a "visitor's pass"
and limited response rights since this involves my sister. I do not have a
public email address, so I am using Starr's.
I am not a web designer. I am an Attorney by profession, a civil human being
by choice, and a VERY loving and supportive older "sis".
I have been looking over Starr's shoulder at the various lists she receives
email from because I AM my sister's keeper and a teenager is fair game on
the Internet.
I am aware of Killian from months past, as well as his/her response to
Starr's critique request yesterday. What I am about to say is going to be
laced with emotional content and not directly relative to web design or web
site critique in any manner. Delete this now and spare me the "off-topic"
replies.
When I read Killian's reply to Starr I experienced a myriad of emotional
reactions none of which were positive. I never wanted to slap another human
being as badly as I wanted to slap Killian yesterday.
We were all extremely shocked to say the least. Starr was very upset. My
father is retired from law enforcement and he was livid. It was all we could
do to hang onto our Christmas Spirit I tell you.
But, I don't know what shocks me more, Killian's response or this list's
tolerance. It doesn't surprise me that the Guild fails to enforce its own
standards and rules of "netiquette", but, for you to allow it to continue is
disheartening.
I, personally, in reading prior postings, have experienced Killian to be
rude, unmannerly, highly unprofessional, irritating, abrasive, extremely
lacking in ethical morality, insulting, a black eye to any list, and a great
example of why we need punitive laws in our society.
In light of Killian's reply to Starr yesterday I am bewildered at how any of
you could support him in any manner whatsoever, or, how any part thereof
could be interpreted as being in the spirit of this list.
Starr is one of 5 girls in this family, the youngest being pre-teen and the
oldest being myself - mid 40's. We are home for the holidays through New
Year's Day and were all sitting with Starr in eager anticipation when she
asked for the critique and helped print and read the returns. Nothing,
repeat, NOTHING, prepared us for the venom named Killian Jenkins.
A 16 year old young lady requested a critique of her work be performed by
members of a list consisting of professional and semi-professional web
designers. She (as we) expected civil, educated, experienced, objective
responses from members who wished to participate in a constructive and
corrective manner with the end goal being one of education and growth.
Negativity was expected and invited, but, not to Killian's degree.
Finding Killian's response among the returns was like discovering a
rattlesnake in the feed barrel.
A major contributing factor to the anger in this family is the fact that
Killian knew in advance he was addressing a teenage web design novice who
was placing her initial attempts at a business web site into the public
domain for peer review. She was seeking approval, correction, guidance, a
learned extending of an experienced hand from you ... her mentors.
What did she get from Killian Jenkins? The most humiliatingly venomous words
I have ever read spoken to anyone on this list, regardless of age. Words
which upset me to this minute. It was as if this child reached out a hand to
Killian for assistance only to be met with abuse and degradation. I am livid
and Killian needs to be removed from this list and yesterday would not be
soon enough.
I read a post this morning from a listmember stating Starr shouldn't get
special handling due to her age. I submit she should .. as all of our youth
should.
Our youth are our future. What does that mean to you, the listmember?
Youngsters like Starr Wolf are the future of web design. She carries with
her the direction of web design in the years to come. When a young design
novice reaches out to you older, wiser, experienced and seasoned
professionals you should take that youth into your educational embrace and
do all you can to pass down your skills and advice in a manner conducive to
their growth and evolution as effective contributors to the web design
community.
Bridge burners such as Killian Jenkins are what this profession does not
need if it is to span the rivers of generations to come. The likes of
Killian Jenkins are negatively impacting the future of this list and web
design in general whenever they discourage these young minds with their
venom, hatred, and unproductive commentaries.
I don't know how many other young budding web designers, or parents of young
budding web designers, are reading this and other postings. But, everyone on
this list can be assured that as long as there are "Killians" lurking about
young minds will not venture out.
On a more personal front, Killian's comments to Starr came very close to
running her out of the web design business. She was broken-hearted and very,
very hurt by the words. It took our embrace as well as the personal email
"embrace" from several listmembers to soothe her wounds. She is a fighter
and always has been. She found the tenacity within herself to regroup and
stand up to Killian's assault.
Starr composed herself and sent Killian a response asking him/her to support
his/her position with facts and to leave out the subjective verbiage and
insulting remarks. Killian responded to this request in true character with
equal venom. This makes it clear Killian has no intention of curtailing his
behavior.
I urge you all to rethink your support of this person. To lend support to
any degree to Killian Jenkins is like petting a cobra!!
I have been active in the American Criminal Justice System from the defense
and prosecution sides of the law for most of my adult life and I am well
aware that this type of attention is often what derelicts such as Killian
crave and could very well contribute to Killian's unacceptable behavior
which is possibly why he/she hides behind a keyboard only to surface in one
or more alter-egos created to cloak an extreme social inadequacy to "feed"
from his/her email inbox. Facts being as they may, it does not justify
tolerance of his/her kind.
When we have social rejects who refuse to adhere to our rules of conduct in
the community do we open our doors, bake a cake and invite them in? No!! Do
civilized people in a moral society watch as their neighbors are abused by
sociopathic delinquents? No!! We act swiftly and certainly making it clear
we do not condone such behavior and give the offender the choice of either
correcting their behavior or face repercussions. If they continue their
socially unacceptable behavior we take immediate and corrective punitive
action without regard to excuse.
I encourage all of you who care about this list and who are trully
interested in its moral and ethical future to send an email to the Guild in
support of requesting the removal of Killian Jenkins from this list
immediately. This person has failed in the past to conduct him/herself in
accordance with established Guild codes of list conduct, as well as National
and International copyright laws, and continues to fail. This list is a
social society and Killian Jenkins is its sociopathic delinquent in need of
harsh, immediate, and effective discipline.
Killian's artistic and/or web design talents should have no bearing upon
whether he/she is allowed to continue participating on this list. Charles
Manson has great artistic and philosophical talents but it didn't change the
fact he was responsible for one of the most repulsive mass murder sprees in
U.S. history!!
Wake up and police yourselves listmembers!! The Guild won't do it unless you
force their hand.
Killian aggravates me so badly that I spent time this morning on the phone
trying to find a way to reach out and "touch" Killian by way of Czech
contacts only to discover (to my chagrin) that his behavior hasn't reached
the plateau of Czech intervention ... yet!! But, there is always the hope
that since Killian will always be Killian he/she will roll in his/her manure
enough to get the stench noticed. I was given assurance the Czech government
will exam Killian's true identity, business activities, social character and
criminal history (if any).
There was a ray of sunshine in the storm this morning in the form of a new
client for Starr. This is a business client who wants to give Starr a shot.
He is the City Manager of a City in Los Angeles County, California which has
been searching for someone to re-work their website. He was referred by one
of you yesterday and liked the potential he saw in Starr's web site pages
and in her age. He is mailing a substantial retainer to Starr today and will
prove to be Starr's biggest client to date.
Starr has sent a personal "thank you" to the listmember who set up this job,
and she wants me to extend her gratitude to the majority of you for your
presence, and, especially to the positive 47 who responded so far to her
critique request intent upon teaching her and contributing to her growth as
a web designer.
Killian, I hope you find enough civil humanity in your heart to apologize to
Starr for your words yesterday, and to change your approach towards others
with whom you deal. You aren't beyond redemption ... I hope.
