Hello Burt.

Your request for a critique belonged on the -critique list. So I have sent
this to you and the that list, rather than -techniques.

I checked out your clients website, and was impressed. Here are a few
comments, all IMHO.

1. In the first 'splash' page, the image was too large in file size. I know
you don't want to compromise quality, but you might just have to. Maybe
smaller in screensize would help. For compression try out Websitegarage [1],
and online service, or Ulead SmartSaver [2], an offline graphics optimiser.

2. The refresh on the splash page was too short at 35 seconds. It refreshed
halfway between loading the image. I would either make the image much
smaller in filesize and screensize, or remove the refresh so the visitor has
to click to continue.

3. It is a good idea to put the size of the graphic in the ALT attribute, so
people can choose to load it or not, if they have turned automatic loading
off. Also useful for Lynx users for the same reason.

This is how I do it:  ... ALT="[My image - 5Kb]" ...  (The [ ] are for Lynx
users, so they can distinguish text from an image ALT)

4. I do like the colours, quite different from the usual. I would, however,
consider introducing another colour for a little more variety.

5. The images are of fantastic quality, well scanned. I felt they needed
something though. Maybe a light border, or drop-shadow. It might make them
look more 'comfortable'.

6. The rollovers are very nice, and bring some life to the page. The colour
also is good.

7. You have excellent multiple resolution support! It looked almost exactly
the same in 640x480 as 600x800.

8. The layout with many frames is very good. The sub-pages all loaded very
quickly and left the majority of the page as it was. Very well done IMO.

9. The only thing I would definitely change is the font for the text in the
small sub-pages. It hasn't been set, and thus reverts to the browser
default, in most cases times roman (not very nice). I would change it to
verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif using the FONT element or CSS.

Overall a very well planned, set-out and executed site. Uncluttered and easy
to navigate.
