Hi,
First of all, I like the colours you've used (besides the pink - looks a
bit twee). Easy on the eye, and enough contrast to be legible. It's
overall a pretty site, that made me wish I could visit the market - and
that's the whole point, right?
Now for some criticism (constructive I hope):
::Home page::
The text header could be improved on. I think you're mixing too many sizes
and styles. The italics doesn't work too well - it looks bitty. In fact
why not drop it all together and use their logo [logo2.jpg], which you
have a little further down anyway?
I really like the quote you've run down the LHS side of the page.
The intro text is perhaps a little long for the home page - I would move
it to a secondary page and put a much shorter version on the home page -
say 1/4 the length it is now.
As far as links go, I could see three - all going to the same place.
Ideally on the home page you should give people some idea of what content
they can find on the site. Links to each section would be a good idea.
The text link at the top ("continue") seems a bit pointless. You generally
continue *from* somewhere, and at that point you haven't *been* anywhere
to continue from.
The text link at the bottom says "Click to continue" - this type of
wording is a no-no. If someone is reading a printout of the page, they
cannot "click" anywhere. If they are viewing it on a system that does not
have a mouse, they also can't click. It's this sort of discrepancy that
jumps out at you only when you can't click, not when you can.
The image link at the bottom page is misleading - it appears to be an
image map which will take you to three different places, but isn't. Also,
"pinky.gif" is not a good choice for your ALT text.
::Next page::
Again, the LHS column is nice and gives the page a magaziney or newspapery
feel. It also makes the columns narrower and easier to read. The pink text
has to go! It's not an unpleasant pink (as pinks go) but somehow pink is
not a colour that one takes seriously. A nice (for example) chocolate
brown would go with the colour scheme and tie in the "organic" theme.
The nice market logo on the home page would look better than the text
header at the top - and wouldn't slow things down very much since it has
already been downloaded.
Try to be consistent with font face and size: the first heading "Time &
Place" looks different to all the other headings and is smaller than the
paragraph which follows it - looks a little strange. Also, some of your
text is centred and some left-aligned. Try to be consistent - left-aligned
text is easier to read.
You have quite a few different sections on this page - a list at the top
of the page with internal links to the section headers would be a good
idea. The triangular (?) bullet for each section name doesn't look right -
it seems to have been anti-aliased for a white bg, not yellow. It doesn't
fit the look of the site either.
I didn't get any further than this into the site.
Hope this helps,
Lynnsey
