Hi Jack,
I would move away from the everything-centered look, but that would mean a
complete re-design (probably not what you're looking for), so I'll
restrict myself to easily made changes.
I was initially a little confused by the home page. The links below the
banner say "carpet cleaning - carpet sales" but below that you describe
carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning. Below *that* you say "carpet
sales, cleaning and repair". I think there's too much repetition of the
same thing, and at the same time a lack of consistency. I also couldn't
see anywhere to get more info on upholstery cleaning.
I would say something like "we supply and care for carpets" below the logo
- that seems to sum up the main business of the company - and then below
that have links to the relevant sections:
Contact us for
# carpet sales - <residential> and <commercial>
# <carpet cleaning and repair>
# <upholstery cleaning>
Or perhaps make a paragraph out of it: We supply all your carpet needs,
whether <commercial> or <residential>. We also <clean and repair> carpets.
We repair <upholstery> too!
Obviously you would get a real copy-writer to do that part!
Also, none of the buttons (or they looked like buttons) at the bottom of
the page linked to anything. People expect to able to click on things...
and these all looked as though you should be able to get more information.
I would also have done them in the same style/colours, for consistency. It
looks a bit tacky, as though it was done a bit at a time, rather than
designed as cohesive whole.
Text colours: too many. You've used black and two shades of blue for
non-clickable text. This is confusing, especially since one of the blues
is the default link colour. The text links at the top of the page don't
change colour when clicked - more confusion.
The logo is rather too large and takes too long to download. I'm sure it
can be further optimised without compromising quality.
Hope this helps,
Lynnsey
