Hi Carrie,
Overall it's a nice neat site, so I will confine my remarks to what I
think could be improved on:
1. The colours are rather dull for a jewelry site. Other reviewers have
covered this in more detail.
2. The copy runs a little too close to the beige (?) panel. I would also
sharpen the edge, the fuzziness doesn't look quite right.
3. The company name is unusual and I hoped to find an explanation under
"about"...
4. "It is the owner=92s belief that all women have a right to dress to fit
the occasion and that all women are entitled to own beautiful creations."
Um... no intention to offend, but this sounds a bit precious. In my
country we are struggling to provide people with jobs, food and housing.
It could be perfectly appropriate for your target market though.
5. Also under "about", it would be nice if the referenced stones were
linked to a list of stones with pictures, properties, etc.
6. Products> Earrings: rather than saying "Click on the image for a
description and price" I would just have a link saying "more information"
- or if you want to keep it the way it is, you really only need to say it
once, at the top of the page. And why not show the price on this page,
it's a tiny piece of info.
7. The descriptions are not very evocative: "Shown: Earring Style 1 -
Leopard Jasper & 14/20 Gold-filled beads" - earring style 1 is only
meaningful to you, not to me. What does leopard jasper look like? Maybe
something more like (disclaimer - I am not a copy-writer): " The rich
tones of leopard jasper bring out the warmth of the gold beads... blah
blah blah". Something that will make me want to take a closer look.
8. Clicking on that item: the photo is fuzzy and the earrings would look
better on a dark background - maybe midnight blue velvet. Then you have
two things saying "select one" - this confused me. I don't know what I'm
supposed to choose from. If you have different options for the earrings,
maybe put them into a list (ordered or unordered, either would work).
9. Under the photo it says "(Shown with Leopard Jasper & 14/20 Gold-filled
beads)" implying that some other option is available, but no other options
are mentioned. (I see the next earring page does list available stones,
but with no pictures of them.)
10. Feedback form: why is my evening phone number required? What if all I
want to do is let you know about a typo on your site? And email address is
not required - surely it's much cheaper and easier to respond to someone
by email?
11. I submitted the form without filling anything in (lots of people will
do this) and got this error message:
"Error
No email was sent due to an error.
403 No variable substitutions in template
/web1/over30enterprise/htdocs/feedback.txt
cgiemail 1.6"
12. "How did you find our Web Site ?" - does that mean "how did you get
here?" or "what do you think of it?"
Basically, you have lovely products, and the web site - while servicable,
and in fact much better than many of the small-biz sites I've seen - is
not really doing them justice.
I looked at your site with IE5 and Netscape 3.04. NN did some rather odd
things with the navigation, but it was still usable.
