Hi there,

Just a quick thank you for the suggestions I recently received both on and
off-list.

I decided to go for Ulead's PhotoImpact - their iPhoto Express cane with our
scanner and it is a great program for quickly preparing scanned images. Not
as powerful as Photoshop, but very practical and efficient at what it does -
especially when our printers need a .tif file. I look forward to
(eventually) purchasing the full package.

I also appreciate the references to tutorial sites. I used to con myself
that I knew what I was doing. Like many, I blamed the tools and not the
worker when the final product was substandard. Time for me to go back into
the classroom, I guess <shamefaced grin>.

I noticed on the Ulead site that they also produce Cool 3D. Has anyone used
this for their web graphics?

Some time ago, I used a plug-in for PhotoShop 4. It included an action for
3D buttons. Unfortunately, I lost it when my system died many months ago
and I lost the URI. I also forgot who created it! Oh the joy of having a
new computer with a CD burner! I'll start searching for PhotoShop 4
plug-ins and actions again soon. It looks like I'll have to upgrade and
this must wait until funds become available. Either I am looking in the
wrong places, or I am finding stuff that only works on version 5+. (I do
have access to a limited edition of PS 5. Not sure if the actions will work
with this, though).

I checked out the GIMP site - but that requires UNIX or WinNT to operate.
It hasn't been ported to Win98 as yet and we can't afford a server set-up as
yet. We plan to rebuild an older system as a Linux server, but that has to
wait until next year due to finances. It looks like a great program that,
from what I can see, helps produce great graphics.

Again, thanks for the comments and suggestions. Feel free to pass on any
further ideas or links (either off-list or on-list). I am grateful for any
help I can get.
