printing graphics

I worked on a  texted logo.  I saved as gif.  Guess what?  It looks awful in
print.  Edges are ragged.  What format do I need to save as? or, YIKES, is
there something to doing graphics for print that is different than doing for
the web?  I eagerly await your replies.
