There is a neat little app called BrowserSizer that makes resetting the
browser screen size to standard settings a piece of cake.  It's also
stampware (costs you the price of a 1st class stamp).  Check it out:

800x600 at 16 million colors is certainly the standard for design BUT---

1. Many viewers are set at 640x480
2. Many viewers do not set their browser at full screen.

Surprise!!!

I design my pages at 800x600, but periodically change my display to
640x480 and make sure that everything still looks good. Even more often
(just cause it's easier to do) I 'window' my browser to about 3/4 of
full screen (4/5 would be the exact equivalent of 640). I've been doing
this ever since I started setting my monitor at 800x600, about two
years. It's very easy to get used to and prevents any problem from
occurring when the client first looks at it and complains about
"everything spilling off to the right" or "Not lining up right".

I find this to be quite important, surprisingly enough, with text
wrapping in some fashion that makes it look awkard on the screen.

BTW, remember that text is always easiest to read if it is aligned left
and makes proper use of captialization and punctuation. It's what are
eyes and brains are most used to. Save centering and caps for titles.
