Carol,
Congrats on the nice monitor :-)
A 17" monitor is best at 1024x768, so a 19 would be well suited to 1152x864
or 1280x1024, given the quality og the Sony I am confident that it would
be very usable at the higher of the two settings. Colour depth should be 24
bit
(true colour, 16.7million colours) for graphics work. The refresh rate will
depend
on what your video card will support at the resolution/colour depth you have
chosen.
It is a good general rule to have a vertical refresh rate of at least 75Hz
to prevent
visible flickering, however if you are working for long periods and are at
all sensitive
you will want to be at at least 85Hz. I'm confidant that the monitor you
have will
run at these or higher settings. So it is up to your video card if it can
run at those
combinations of settings.
