Hi:

Yes there is really a need for this extra memory on board and new
arcitecture. ATI has indeed come out with a new line and from what I have
read through reviews and benchmarks, has established a major break through
in price and performance.

I play doom2 once a year. It's the only game I have. The rest of the time
is spend developing Websites and multimedia presentations. This includes 3D
rendering, high end graphics for print, sound mixing and hopefully video
input and output without choppy performance.

If you are doing large screen presentations for conferences you need the
refresh rate to carry video (avi), presentation software and sound. You
also need to work on your computer to do the regular work and waiting for a
3D image to render can mean taking the dogs for a walk and having a coffee
before it's completed.

Proper video capture and output requires memory and video card power.
Without this your best work can turn into a nightmare!

So, Yes! The person that said every bit will help is correct. I can't
afford $10,000.00 or more for the top of the line equipment, that does not
include the rest of the computer. That would include a $6,000.00 video card
and a scuzi hard drive or two at super quick rates, along with the software
to do it. ATI's solution is most definitely a real life solution!

If you've ever done any 3D rendering or heavy duty animation, you'll
see that every bit you can get is a great help. :)
