The basis for metal bars in any program is simply
to use a gradient fill on a thin, long rectangle.

If you have the option available, plot different colors
at different points in the gradient to get that "shiny"
look.

For different colors, just adjust the hue of each bar.

For an example of some gradient fills, check out this
PhotoPaint illustration I did for Koh-i-noor.
