Hi Carol,
If you must have a .gif to make the background transparent, I would suggest
in PSP5 to try reducing to 256 via the Optimized Median Cut, with error
diffusion, and reduce color bleeding. It is still going to show some
banding.
The better choice, again working in PSP5, would be .jpg at 0 compression
level. Working from your original .png, I end up with a 18.7KB file. If
you are really trying for size on a web page, 10% compression doesn't look
too bad either, an yields an 8.21KB file.
