Hi Raymond. Have to agree. I have Photoshop, Director, Premier, Flash, =
Fireworks. All Adobe products. I too am a non manual experimental =
type. I revert to the manual if I am stumped but, for the most part I =
am a graphical person and learn by doing. Adobe without a doubt has =
created one of the most confusing systems to use. Try figuring out the =
tutorials for flash or some of the other programs. My tool of Choice is =
Corel and in particular Corel Photopaint! I've been using this as my =
main source of Web Production graphics application for years. Why? =
Because, for a high end product it's learning curve is more friendly =
than some and because it's standard, stock equipment like filters and =
effects is endless. You don't have to add plugins because you can do =
almost anything you can think of with what comes stock with the program. =
On top of that , the compression is increible. This program is a joy =
and my right hand lierally! Once you experiment and play around you can =
create effects in a snap within this one program without having to get =
extra plugins or bounce off to another application. It's options rich =
and to this day I have still not explored all the posibilities :-) The =
possibilites never end!
If you want some help or ideas for your book, give me a shout. I've =
been using the program for since version 3, many years now. I'd be =
happy to provide some input!

=20
Greetings all.
=20
I am a true Corel Believer too.
I tried Adobe Products but could not figure out the interface.=20
This is rather strange since I am the type of computer "expert" =
which will learn on the fly how to use almost any software (with the =
possible exeption of german software). Just put me in front of a =
computer with a new software (without a manual) and in a couple of hours =
or days I am rocking.
As said I was nevertheless unable to use Adobe Photoshop or Adobe =
Imageready. The interface was just "to strage" to me (?!). I guess it =
is a question of getting used to it.
(I am sure Photoshop is also an excellent program)
=20
When I first used Corel Photopaint 7 I could almost immediately =
create quiet average looking graphics. Now I have a solid background on =
creating optimized web graphics on Photopaint 8 and it is a pleasure to =
work with it.
=20
When I read tutorials on Photoshop I often can not help myself but =
think "What the hell.... " Why on earth is it so complicated to do a =
certain effect in Photoshop?
For example I read a tutorial on how to create the X-Files green =
halo effect. It was a quite extensive tutorial. In Photopaint I am able =
to do it in just ONE (1) step.
=20
Or the tutorial on the image map that was posted on this list a =
little while ago. It looked so twisted and complicated. Believe me in =
Photopaint it is WAY easier to create imagemaps if I compare it with =
that tutorial. ;-)
=20
I am planning to write a book (most probably on CD-ROM) about =
creating special effects on Corel Photopaint 8. Should anyone consider a =
specific graphic topic or effect worthwhile to write about just let me =
know, maybe I'll write about it.
=20
;-)
