I normally keep two versions of each file, one saved in my image editors
file format and the other preparred for web use (Jpeg or Gif). When I want
to re-edit the graphic I use the other file format. Then all I need to do is
save the file as a Gif or Jpeg. This way I avoid the lossy loop :).

Yes that was a poor choice of words, sorry, what I meant was that you
shouldn't automatically rule out one format.
