Evening (or your current time of day) graphics members, It's been awhile, I think it's time to post the "weekly" FAQ to reaquaint members with a few handy URLS and introduce the new members to the List Guides Pease make sure you have read the Mailing List Policy before your next post! General List Guide Information The Guides follow the Netiquette as standard procedure in reviewing posts to the lists, so before you submit your message be sure you have reviewed the correct guidelines. The Mailing List Policy can be found at: http://www.hwg.org/lists/cover.html . If you have a problem with what someone else has posted to the list, then you may freely respond to them in private email or notify the List Guides for the list. In this case it would be: lg-graphics(at)hwg.org Do NOT respond on the list! That just makes the matter worse. If you have a problem with an action taken by a List Guide you may address that with the List Guide Manager at lg-manager(at)hwg.org . 2. How do I subscribe and unsubscribe? To subscribe to the list, send a message to: hwg-graphics-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message write: subscribe No subject information is needed. Your address will be determined from the message headers. To subscribe to the list in digest form, send a message to: hwg-graphics-digest-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message write: subscribe No subject information is needed. Your address will be determined from the message headers. To unsubscribe from the list, send a message to: hwg-graphics-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message, type: unsubscribe No subject information is needed. Your address will be determined from the message headers. Your address will be determined from the message headers. If you have a subscription or administrative problem with the list, send email to: owner-hwg-graphics(at)hwg.org . If that still causes you problems, send mail to: lo-manager(at)hwg.org . If you have problems with the mailing list that cannot be resolved by contacting one of the above people, send email to: listmanager(at)hwg.org in order to resolve the problem. 3. HWG Guild Mailing Lists Available These lists are open to any member of the HWG at no cost. hwg-basics - The basics of web page creation. hwg-techniques - Another group for the discussion of web page creation, but this one is for intermediate to advanced topics. hwg-business - Marketing, contracts, ethics, sales, etc. hwg-critique - Requests for reviews. hwg-graphics - Discussion of the creation and use of graphics on the web. hwg-languages - Discussion of Java, Javascript, VBScript, Perl, ActiveX, and other web related programming and scripting languages. hwg-servers - Discussion of all aspects of web servers and CGI. hwg-software - Discussion of tools used in relation to the web. hwg-standards 0 Discussion of specific issues of the HTML and XML languages, current and evolving standards. hwg-theory - Discussion of the theory of certain aspects of web design such as frames vs no frames. hwg-announce - One-way announcement list for official Guild news and information. Other lists are available under the heading of "Plus lists". The plus lists are narrowly focused lists which enhance the Guild Discussion Lists. These lists are accessible only by "Plus" and "Associate" members of the HWG. hwg-plus-site-mgmt - Discussion specifically related to site management. hwg-plus-marketing - Discussion relating to effective marketing strategies on the Internet. hwg-plus-stylesheets - Discussion specifically relating to cascading stylesheets (CSS). hwg-plus-javascript - Discussion of the javascript language. hwg-plus-w3c - Discussion of the Guild's role in the World Wide Web Consortium. Each list has a different "atmosphere"... It might be a good idea to spend some time listening in ("lurking") before posting in order to get a feel for the way conversations take place. You may post to the list by sending your message to: hwg-graphics(at)hwg.org . 5. Feel Like Volunteering? Currently, the List Guide ranks are all filled up, and we are starting a waiting list of volunteers. If you would like to serve in this capacity and would like additional information, please contact Allen Gould at volunteer(at)hwg.org for further details and offer your services. Thanks! 6.
