When you say empty do you mean ... <img alt src="thispic.gif"> or do you
mean <img alt="" src="thispic.gif">

What did you put in the ALT attributes? For shim images and other
non-meaningful images, the ALT attributes should be left empty (but should
be there anyway). That way a text to speech browser will ignore them. Is
that what you did? If so, you're fine.
