It may work fine for you on a 640x480, 800x600 or 1024x768 display, but what
about all the 17-21" monitor users out there who run at 1280x1024 or
1600x1200. Heck - even 14"s can run virtual desktops at up to 19??x14?? or
something.

If I'm creating a site with a background which has a stripe or something
down the left hand side for an index, I always do *at least* a 1600x
whatever image. That way almost everybody is happy. It may take a bit longer
to download, but it's worth it.

If you are worried about bandwidth - you could always use a table cell down
the left hand side and specify a background colour/graphic (though I think
the background graphic in cells only works on IE3+).

I really dislike it when you run in 1024 or higher and lots of sites are not
designed with this in mind. And don't tell me I should run in a 640x480
window - if you have a big monitor shouldn't a web site take advantage of
that and fit more on? All the ones I design do...
