When you buy the scanner or the image editing
software you generally get a colour matching
system with it. In my case with Micrografx
Graphics Suite I have the
Kodak Precision Colour Matching System (KPCMS).
It allows you to create profiles so that you will
get consistent colour results from scanner to screen
to printer.

I would not be at all suprised if you could download
something along these lines from Kodak, Adobe, Tektronix,
Xerox, QMS, HP, or other sites that deal with colour
imaging and printing processes and computers.

Have a look at the docs from your scanner/printer/software
to see if you already have something that wasn't part of
the default install.

Is there any way to calibrate a scanner so that you consistently get scans 
of images that actually match up to the colour of the image prior to 
scanning? My scanner software has the option of adjusting the control of 
brightness and contrast through the Gamma curve as well as the usual 
brightness and contrast.
