I am not sure if this is the "clarification" you are asking for, but
below is a comparison of one particular graphic, saved in the different
file formats, showing the relevant file size for each:

.gif:  file size 1130 (16 colors)
.gif:  file size 1944 (256 colors)
.jpg  file size 2044 (35% compression)
.png file size 2778

If this is not what you are asking, please be more specific.
