John, you are seeing this -after- a change. Jay changed the BGCOLOR 
from bright red to blue.

Jay, I think John's comments are the result of the red conflicting
too much with the blue. Try a thin line of red around the black
circle. I think it will still stand out sharply but not be
overpowering/vibrating.
