Jayse,
You missed the whole point of Susan's question. She asked about converting
a scan to vector.
The point in obtaining a grayscale image is so that you, the user, have
control over what gets converted to white and what gets converted to black.
If all you get is a black and white scan, you have given up that control to
the copy shop -- not something *I'm* particularly willing to do. It is
always possible, not to mention easy, to change a grayscale scan into a
black and white bitmap; not so the other way around.
And, since the purpose is to trace the image, thereby "converting" it to
vector, what does difference does it make if "Your whites will be muddy...
and your blacks grayish"?
The scenario that I laid out for Susn provided a grayscale bitmap that
contained more than adequate resolution for doing a vector tracing.
So get off your high horse!
