The colors you've used may both be "blue-green," but they are definitely
not the same color. The blue-green you use in your GIF files has RGB values
of 128/186/177, whereas the background color of your table cell is
128/177/177 (neither of which, incidentally, are part of the browser-safe
216-color Netscape palette).

That slight difference in the Green value is the reason that the colors
look slightly off, under some circumstances, and in others, a gray is
introduced because of the non-Netscape palette.
