I use Poser 4 for all of my artwork and am quite comfortable with it. Claus,
you need to apply a texture to your figure in order to make it look right. You
will not get good results if you use the default "colors" on your figures. Use
your explorer to enter the textures folder and see if you have any textures
there for the poser 3 figure that you are using. Then enter the "render" pull
down and go into "materials". There, change the entire figure to the color
"white". This will allow your figure's texture to show up true. Then apply the
texture to the entire figure and press save.
After that, render the figure. I think you'll find that things look a lot better.
There are dozens upon dozens of more things you can do to improve the
figure. Poser is a complicated tool and certainly NOT push button artwork, but
if you have some artistic training in composition, color and lighting, you can do
some fun things with it.
Feel free to have a look at my gallery and commissions pages for some
examples of what I do.
Take care and have fun. :)
